Growing up in Chattanooga you quickly develop a love or hate of Krystal's sliders. They are small little greasy burgers that people eat by the sackful. That's what inspired this post. The secret ingredient here is the pickle. You can do with catchup or mustard but you have to have the pickle.
You need:
- Small rolls or buns
- Small white onion diced and sauteed with a pinch of sugar
- Mustard or catchup
- Dill pickle slices
- Seitan "burger" patties
This is the recipe we used for the seitan:
- 1 cup vital wheat gluten
- 1/4 cup nutritional yeast
- 1 tbsp chickpea flour
- 1 tbsp onion powder
- 1 tea sp minced onion
- 1 tea sp garlic powder
- 1/2 tea sp white pepper
- 1/2 tea sp crushed caraway seeds
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup liquid aminos
- 1 tea sp liquid smoke
Mix all of your ingredients together to form a dough. Then flatten and add to a foil lined baking dish. Bake at 350 for 35 minutes. After its fully cooked allow it to cool slightly so it's easier to handle. Then you can use a bread knife to cut into the desired size and shape.
